Art Direction & Styling workshop at Somerset House - How to Deliver Exceptional Creative Campaigns
Thank you to all the students that came to the workshop held at The Fusion Lab, Makerversity, Somerset House on 9th March 2017.
There was so much that noone told me when I was starting out: - the importance of planning and preparing, the joy of research and development, always keeping a stock checklist of every item and ensuring that the designer examines every piece when they receive it back, how to communicate within a team and also how to translate those finite details into the abundance of signs and images which we are faced with on a day to day basis is overwhelming, fascinating, inspiring, plucking the ones which appeal to you as an individual, and defining your niche in the creative industries will inevitably assist in the creation of your identity and the brands which want to work with you ..and ensure you cherish your creative career and love every moment; from conception to that moment that you see your work in print, on television, and in film and on stage.
Now more than ever it is important to work with ethical and environmentally conscious brands who care about our planet, ensuring a commitment to the future generations. Reduce waste, reuse, and recycle, and invest in quality. We all have our part to play in this, and luckily there is plenty of support out there, from The Ethical Fashion Forum http://www.ethicalfashionforum.com/ to the Fashion Revolution: www.fashionrevolution.org
According to Dame Ellen MacArthur (source: The Guardian Business: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jan/19/more-plastic-than-fish-in-the-sea-by-2050-warns-ellen-macarthur) By 2050 our oceans could contain more plastic than fish. By making a conscious decision about where to purchase, and which brands to work with, we can work cohesively to avert climate catastrophy and protect our natural resources and wildlife, creating work which is also beautiful on the inside,
I plan to deliver more classes where we can breakdown the 5 areas which were covered
1. SEMIOLOGY - THE MEANING OF THE IMAGE
2. BRAND STRATEGY - MARKETING AND ART DIRECTION MIX
3. CREATIVE MIX- RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
4. THE CREATION OF A CALL SHEET
5. POST PRODUCTION
And also share trade secrets into how to access creative opportunities and brand collaborations for those working on a budget in greater detail.
RECYCLED MATERIALS WORKSHOP
I will also stage a workshop how to use recycled and reclaimed materials (such as fabric offcuts which would otherwise go to landfill) to create exquisite art pieces.
