The Future of Fashion

The Future of Fashion

Label Press and Holly Jade O’Leary co hosted The Future of Fashion at Sketch, Mayfair, 13th September 2018, to coincide with London Fashion Week 2018.

The focus of the event was to explore the theme of the beauty of nature, environmental conservation and sustainable development in relationship to the future of fashion, creating a multidisciplinary experiential event. Guests were greeted by a fine art installation by Holly Jade O’Leary featuring ‘The Castle’ artwork, botanical and neoclassically inspired fantasy tableaux as they entered the Glade, decorated by Caroline Quartermaine.

The menu includes a Maroon ‘Breakfast Juice’ and The Fairy Emporium plant based gastronomic designed by 2 star Michelin chef Pierre Gagnaire. Dishes included:

  • Vegetable Chef’s Forest (mushrooms and baby vegetables) with Zezette Bouillon (green sauce with a Paris mushroom base)

  • Sketch Sweet Wood (mushroom-shaped meringue, seasonal fruit, pistachio sponge cake)

The Jewelled Moon Theatre Company wearing textile art couture created from reclaimed materials presented tableaux from Camille Saint-Saens’ Carnaval Des Animaux, accessorised by Liz Earle’s botanical jewellery range designed for Cred Jewellery.

Artists move through a fairytale forest, dressed in shimmering and delicate dresses, starflowers and jewels, butterflies, glimpses into an enchanted world. The Nightingale opens with a operatic solo, in vivid red satin her mellow voice and melody illuminates living tableaux. An autumn leaf falls, clad in buttercup golden sunshine. A sylph flies in sparkling pale blue, as a dragonfly glides across water, she is as cool and elegant as a statue seen by silver moonlight. The ballerina moves like a shimmering rose petal, seen through a cloak of forest leaves she appears to be part of an impressionist painting, in a timeless emblem of the beauty of nature.

Aweless presented a fashion installation inspired by places. Designer Oona Ancuta’s striking designs featured bold contemporary animal prints, tactile fabrics and 1970’s style high collars and frills, juxtaposed with midriff revealing high waisted pencil dresses and skirts within a dynamic installation.

Holly Jade O’Leary presented The Beauty of Nature collection created using responsibly sourced fabrics, including GOTS certified organic Pima cotton sateen. Fabrics are inspired by flowers and nature; GOTS certified organic Pima cotton sateen in poppy red and mother of pearl rose, buttercup gold, forget me not blue and sheer white. The organic Pima cotton fabric offers an ethical alternative to silk, and is entirely free of use of GMOs, pesticides, and toxins, grown to the highest standards with excellent labour conditions for workers. Crop rotation enables the soil to retain a healthy mineral balance and natural production of nitrogen through diversification, to produce cotton in the most environmentally friendly way.

With a background as a stylist and creative director this is Holly’s fifth collection, blending art, fashion, textiles and performance in an evocative conceptual event. Multidisciplinary mediums encourage conservation of nature, wildlife and the environment, and a respect of the Earth’s resources.

Glamorous, sleek silhouettes in bold, elegant colours move through a fairytale forest. Lead by Kasey Wynter and Arianne Unity-Hargrave, the models are vivacious, graceful and healthy, with an alluring femininity which transcends time.

The fashion installation was accessorised by Ethical Jeweller of the Year 2018 Cred Jewellery, pioneers in responsible sourcing in the jewellery industry.
